Phonosurgery is a specialized form of phonosurgery in which otolaryngologists use microsurgical techniques and instruments to treat abnormalities in the vibrating edge of the vocal folds and help the patient regain or improve vocal function.
Phonosurgery surgery can also be used to remove lesions such as vocal cord nodules, polyps, or cysts through the mouth to improve voice quality. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and involves inserting a metal tube into the mouth to open the tongue. The surgeon examines the vocal cords under high magnification with a microscope to determine the type of injury present.
